{"id":1017,"date":"2021-07-22T11:45:47","date_gmt":"2021-07-22T11:45:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.alphabeta.me.uk\/blog\/?p=1017"},"modified":"2021-07-22T11:48:40","modified_gmt":"2021-07-22T11:48:40","slug":"meanwhile-tacho-cable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alphabeta.me.uk\/blog\/index.php\/2021\/07\/22\/meanwhile-tacho-cable\/","title":{"rendered":"Meanwhile : Tacho cable."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>It has been a 30 year mystery to me, why every LC engine I have ever had come my way has had a wrecked thread on the tacho drive. <br>I mean, I accept that most owners of LCs in the early days, and even through the 90&#8217;s and beyond, were cack handed gorillas, but every-single-one?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I wonder no longer.<br>While waiting for the rebore on the top end of the project bike, I have been going through the diminishing pile of donor bike parts, and procuring those which are needed to replace broken of overly worn parts.<br>One of these was the tacho cable, which I ordered from an ebay vendor.<br>(Stoopid, I know&#8230; should have gone direct to Norbo at RDLCCrazy!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The auction was marked specifically for RD250LC, and when it arrived, it was clear that it was not, having a drive end thread which was a &#8220;screw into&#8221; type.<br>A brief conversation with the vendor provided some fun, as they assured me that it was the correct one, matching all of their stock numbers.<br>Eventually, I sent them the specifications&#8230; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Length to be 81 &#8211; 85 cm<\/li><li>Square section inner at both ends<\/li><li>11mm screw over, at the clock end<\/li><li>15mm screw over at the drive end<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I even measured the thread pitch from the rev counter, and from the drive stub on the engine, being 1.0 and 1.5 respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What arrived, on the face of it, looked fine, until I trial fitted it to the parts.<br>The clock end screwed on fine, but the drive end felt vary stiff.<br>I stopped turning before I did any damage and measured the internal thread at the 15mm drive end.<br>It was 1.0<br>Not the 1.5 I had measured and specified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-1 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><ul class=\"blocks-gallery-grid\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"3024\" height=\"4032\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alphabeta.me.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_2870-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"997\" data-full-url=\"https:\/\/www.alphabeta.me.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/IMG_2870-rotated.jpg\" data-link=\"https:\/\/www.alphabeta.me.uk\/blog\/img_2870\/\" class=\"wp-image-997\"\/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul><figcaption class=\"blocks-gallery-caption\">Correct RD-LC 1.5 thread pitch on the Right<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>How many LC owners over the past 40 years have been supplied with a 1.0 pitch cable and simply forced it on, wrecking the plastic drive adaptor in the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyway, Mystery solved.<br>i got a refund from the ebay seller, and ordered from RDLCCrazy. <br>Slightly more expensive, but I received what I had ordered.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It has been a 30 year mystery to me, why every LC engine I have ever had come my way&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[8,6],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.alphabeta.me.uk\/blog\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1017"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.alphabeta.me.uk\/blog\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.alphabeta.me.uk\/blog\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.alphabeta.me.uk\/blog\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.alphabeta.me.uk\/blog\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1017"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.alphabeta.me.uk\/blog\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1017\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1018,"href":"https:\/\/www.alphabeta.me.uk\/blog\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1017\/revisions\/1018"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.alphabeta.me.uk\/blog\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1017"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.alphabeta.me.uk\/blog\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1017"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.alphabeta.me.uk\/blog\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=1017"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
