Yokes and steering

To get to phase 1 (Bike up on it’s wheels), I need to connect the front forks and wheel to the frame.
This seemed simple enough. After all, I had dismantled a complete bike… hadn’t I? So why can’t I find the yokes?

Then it occurred to me that a few years ago I had undone the XS500 front fork modification on my own 350LC, because the XS forks had become too pitted to pass an MOT.
I had used the front end from the Donor bike for parts.

I needed steering gear, so it’s off to ebay to hunt down bargains, except there are none to be found, so I end up spending circa £90 on the parts I need. At least the top yoke has been blasted and coated in satin black finish, so I wont need to do it.

In the course of my search, I uncovered a number of items in my “boxes of bits”, which will be useful as part of the rebuild, or to be sold on later.

In the pile of bits on the bench are a brake banjo bolt cover, a head bearing dust cover, some brake hose guides, a battery strap, 2x handlebar clamps, some rubber handlebar grips, which may be usable, and another 250 oilpump.
There are 3 usable front sprockets, of 16 and 18 teeth.

Finally, I rooted out the 250 top end I intend to use. It appears unmolested by the tuners files, and is still on it’s original pistons.
