penguin Linux - Terms of Reference.

Background

With support for my prefered Acorn computing platform, increasingly looking like it will dissapear soon, and my Acorn RiscPC showing signs of its age in instability, I considered it time to explore other options available to me. MS Windows of any flavour is clearly not acceptable, otherwise I would already be using it along with all of the other satisfied customers. Linux seemed to be getting a great deal of publicity and has a large number of advocates on usenet. It is also to all intents and purposes 'free'.

Objectives

There are a number of objectives in this odysey.
  1. To check the claims of those who say that Linux, (Particularly Red Hat), can be installed as easily as Windows 95.
  2. To check availability of major applications and their stability and suitability compared with Acorn equivalents.
